A colleague, hairdresser and writer Kathy Jager (photo shown here), shares my excitement about America’s Beauty Show (ABS) this weekend in Chicago. Kathy, the author of the cute book As the Chair Turns, sent me an article she wrote about the wonderful opportunities at shows for
continuing education as well as basic training classes. She also urges professionals to join Cosmetologists Chicago (CC), the sponsor. Here’s more of Kathy’s wisdom:

“You cannot grow in this business without learning and relearning all facets of being a beauty professional. Manufacturers take pride in developing top-notch leaders to educate you in areas that will benefit your future. Finding leaders to whom you can relate will encourage you to sharpen your technical and business skills.
“Besides exposure to new products, tools and techniques, think about all of the people you’ll meet! Everyone there is a beauty professional, and where you have beauty professionals you have conversation! We love to share insight and ideas with each other; it’s our way of expressing our passion for this industry. Maybe you’ll discuss a shared career direction or hear about a new business idea. Socializing at the show is the greatest parting gift you will receive from attending. The networking possibilities are endless, and the bonding experience can be just what you and your salon need.
“Beauty Shows are designed to challenge salon professionals to reach the next level of their career. Learn! Move On! Grow! Go to the Show!” Kathy, I agree!
