Suggesting Little Hair Style Changes Yields Big Results

Every hairdresser has clients who are scared of change. But if they're not tired of the same hair cut month after month and sometimes year after ySuggesting Little Hair Style Changes Yields Big Resultsear, aren't you pretty much ready to scream? Not only does the client's style become outdated, which doesn't do much for getting you referrals, but these ruts stifle your own creativity.

Probably the easiest quick fix for this is suggesting a different style for bangs. You're not asking the client to spend more money, and new fringe freshens the season's look. Also, properly framing the face is so important, and it evolves as the client ages. When you present this idea to a change-phobic client, make sure you have a photo on hand. Subtle color is the other tiny change the client may go along with. A few highlights in early summer pick up everyone's spirit. Any client beginning to show gray has surely noticed and may be grateful that you have a not-too-scary solution. If you can't even get that far, how about switching the part? Even that small hair style change can alter the look, and what's more critical is that it starts the client on a path toward change.

It's all baby steps compared with clients who plop into your chair each time begging for dramatic hair style change. But your steady, cautious clients can be your best word-of-mouth ambassadors. Get them to trust you with the small changes, and the big payoff will be happier clients who trust you to keep them in style. (Photo is courtesy of Fantastic Sam's.)
