Curls Can Be An Option, Not a Mandate

A rotating headline on today's online AIM Dashboard reads, "Step Away From the Straightening Iron; Curls Are ICurls Can Be An Option, Not a Mandaten." It's accompanied by two photos of Scarlett Johansson: one with hair that's bone-straight and the other with loose curls. Anyone can see that gorgeous Scarlett wears both hair styles well. Texture is clearly her friend no matter which way she bends with it.

Are your  salon clients all that different from movie stars? A lot of them like to change it up from day to day to accommodate the "role" they're playing that day. Depending on the occasion and their mood, they want to look feminine or casual or sporty or bedhead or professional or party girl. Every female client should own both a curling iron and a flat iron. She may even use both on the same style, just at different places on her head! While "step away from the straightening iron" makes a cute headline, I don't think it's the best advice for your real-life clients. I'd suggest instead stepping away from any narrow, one-size-fits-all hair fashion rule.

Whether you achieve versatility through chemical hair services, texturized cutting or styling with tools, you and your chair provide the obvious starting point for clients who want to be both Scarlett wavy and Scarlett sleek. My guess is that's just about all clients, if they only knew that all options were open to them.
