So I was watching the reunion episode of VH1’s “Rock of Love 2” (stop throwing things at me; we all have guilty pleasures), and big winner Ambre shows up a lot blonder and sleeker than she was during the series’ regular season. Selected by “Poison” guitarist and lead vocalist Bret Michaels to be his arm candy, Ambre understandably enlisted her hairdresser to glam her up in the interim between the finale and the reunion.

Along with the hair lightening and flat-ironing, what really grabbed me about Ambre’s new look was the swap from a side swing bang to straight-across fringe to the mid-brow. Such a simple touch made a striking image change. Suddenly Ambre could be the rock chick who brings the drama, or she could be the sophisticated lady supporting the star from backstage. Either way, her bangs said that this woman knows precisely what she’s doing with her hair style.
A recent issue of MODERN SALON showed a similar transformation (photo at right). The stylist felt that this model could use a shot of power. He accomplished that not only with the addition of bangs; brightening the hair color played another key role. But there’s no denying how the energy of the face shifts and the features pop when the face is halved by a blanket of fringe. I think it's always prudent to practice on your own or take some
hair cutting classes to ensure that you can switch on the power for your clients.
