In our discussion about

updo’s, I referred mostly to weddings and prom. But what’s a girl doing between being prom queen and bride? She’s partying! That can take the form of hanging out at clubs, going on a special date or even attending a work-related social event. She needs a professional with good
hair styling know-how to fix her up temporarily—for just the evening or weekend.
Like others some years back, I had a mother who wouldn’t miss her weekly wash-and-set appointment at the “beauty shop” no matter what. Those ladies represented a “beautician’s” bread-and-butter clients, accounting for a large share of the receipts. They also got hair cuts and, as they aged, gray-covering hair color, but it was the wash-and-set ritual that brought them to the salon 52 times a year.
Especially now in summertime, I can guarantee that you have young female clients who are partying A LOT! They want to look sexy and have fun. Get tips on current dressy design trends by taking some
hair styling classes, and just throw out there the idea that you’re available late on a Friday or Saturday afternoon—in some cities, expand that to Wednesday and Thursday as well—to send the ladies out into the night looking humidity-resistantly fabuloso in flirty-curl or ironed-straight fashion. Add colored extensions and free hair ornaments, and you may seal the deal. Seeing clients weekly couldn’t hurt, could it? Frequency also builds loyalty. Just ask any stylist who still yearns for the old wash-and-set days.
