Blogging for
ModernSalonLearning, you might guess that I don’t consider
online hair education to be all that controversial. But I do understand that while some people chase the next new idea and must run out and purchase the latest technology (my husband, Gadget Guy), there also are plenty of folks who like things just fine the way they are. Those people might say that education belongs in the classroom.

For decades, midwestern high school and college students have relied on their Chandler’s Assignment Notebooks, published by Chandler’s Office Supplies in Evanston, Illinois, to keep their assignments handy in the perfectly laid out spaces provided for each date. This year the Chandler’s were discontinued, and an acquaintance was complaining: “what will I do?” Now in his 40s, he’d been toting each current year’s notebook since he was a student himself. I mentioned that I keep all of that online with Google Calendar. I love the many features that save me scribbling time, and a lot of people use similar programs on their cell phones so they have their calendar with them constantly.
Although it certainly represents a nod to modern progress, ModernSalonLearning’s
online hair education is not about replacing something familiar with something technological. It’s great to attend hair classes in person at hair shows, advanced academies and in-salon workshops. Online coursework can simply fill a void when you’re very busy, can’t travel or want to save a little money. There’s nothing like the not-so-new-anymore Internet for serving those types of needs!
